The GreenPoint Rated system
Build it Green, a nonprofit organization that trains and certifies contractors in Green building practices, developed the"GreenPoint Rated" measurement; a third party rating system which assesses a home in terms of community design, indoor air quality, resource conservation and water conservation.
Approximately 70% of the homes in California were built prior to 1980. As such, there is a growing need to upgrade existing buildings to comply with new state standards of energy & efficiency. Build It Green created the guidelines for existing homes by modeling them after the GreenPoint Rated system for new homes, in use since 2006.The ratings apply to homes of all styles and ages, and to entire homes or partial remodels.
GreenPoints are awarded in different categories of the building project. A third-party Green Building inspector will asses the home/remodel. The inspection includes an energy survey, visual evaluation of heating and cooling systems, a plumbing leak test, back draft safety test and the recycling of materials.
The GreenPoint Rated system is useful in that it gives the home added value, because the evaluation is performed by a third party. In addition, Certified Green Building Professionals (CGBP) have added credibility in today's market.
C.W. Wright Construction is a Certified Green Building Professional (CGBP) and can answer any of your questions about Green Building practices.
